Photos of the 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift have recently surfaced online, though they have since been removed. Despite this, screenshots of the redesigned mid-size crossover remain. The updated XC90, which draws design cues primarily from the EX90, features an evolutionary design with subtle changes.
The facelift includes a front grille that bears a closer resemblance to the 2025 BMW X3 than traditional Volvo or Polestar designs. It appears that Polestar, once a part of Volvo, is no longer a focus for the Swedish automaker. Earlier this year, Volvo reduced its stake in Polestar, which is now under the control of the Chinese company Geely.
Returning to the leaked XC90, the updated model showcases a front grille with diagonal bars similar to those on the 2025 BMW X3, alongside revised lower grille and Thor’s Hammer headlights. The presence of a charging port flap on the driver-side front fender suggests plug-in hybrid capabilities. The rear of the three-row crossover shows minimal changes, with LED lights at both ends.
The cockpit photo reveals a slightly updated touchscreen for the Google-built infotainment system and retains the crystal shifter. Surprisingly, Volvo has kept a row of physical buttons below the touchscreen.
The 2025 XC90 is advertised as a plug-in hybrid with seven seats, continuing the XC90 Recharge lineup from 2024. This model features a 2.0-liter twincharged inline-four engine, previously known as the T8 Twin Engine, combining an internal combustion engine with an electric motor. Lower variants include the mild-hybrid B6 and B5 engines. The B6, with 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, is more powerful than the B5, which delivers 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Recharge version provides a combined 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque, with an all-electric range of 32 miles (51 kilometers) according to EPA estimates.
