Former Auburn quarterback TJ Finley is once again on the move, re-entering the NCAA Transfer Portal in what could be the sixth chapter of his winding college football journey.
Finley’s career has been a whirlwind, beginning at LSU before transferring to Auburn, where he played under then-head coach Bryan Harsin. Initially backing up Bo Nix, he later battled Robby Ashford for the starting job but never quite managed to lock down the QB1 spot. His stint on the Plains was marked by ups and downs, flashes of promise, and plenty of questions about what could’ve been.
After Harsin’s departure, Finley transferred to Texas State and finally found his rhythm, throwing for 3,439 yards and 24 touchdowns — his best season yet. Riding that momentum, he took his talents to Western Kentucky, where he was named the starting quarterback. Unfortunately, an early-season ankle injury cut his time with the Hilltoppers short.
He transferred once again — this time to Tulane — but his stay was short-lived. Ahead of spring practices, Finley was suspended indefinitely following a serious off-field incident. According to AL.com, he was arrested on charges related to a stolen car, including illegal possession of stolen property valued over $25,000.
With his latest portal entry, Finley’s collegiate career continues its dramatic and unpredictable ride. Where he lands next remains to be seen — but one thing’s for sure, it won’t be boring.
