Overview
Torrey Pines’ boys golf team is a dominant force in the San Diego Section, with the Falcons winning 14 of the last 15 Division 1 titles, including four state championships. Despite this success, coach Chris Drake believes this season presents a tough challenge.
“This is the deepest field of teams and individuals in San Diego in a decade,” Drake said. “There are more teams this year with a legitimate shot at winning Divisions 1, 2, and 3 than I’ve seen in a decade. We have our work cut out for us if we want to repeat as D1 champs and make it to regionals.”
Even with these challenges, Torrey Pines remains a formidable team. Ethan Elleraas, a standout player from the Falcons, recently won the Elite 13 Tournament on March 8 at Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, shooting an impressive 5-under 67.
