The Chicago Bears are making moves to strengthen their wide receiver group by signing veteran Olamide Zaccheaus, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Zaccheaus, a versatile and experienced wideout, has spent the last few years building a solid career in the league, and he now looks to make an impact in Chicago.
Zaccheaus originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Virginia, signing with the Atlanta Falcons in 2019. Despite not being a high-profile prospect, he quickly made a name for himself with his strong work ethic and ability to make key plays. Over four seasons with Atlanta, he steadily improved, culminating in a career-best season in 2022 when he recorded 40 receptions for 533 yards and three touchdowns. His ability to stretch the field and contribute in various offensive roles made him a valuable asset to the Falcons’ passing game.
Following his time in Atlanta, Zaccheaus signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. However, his role in the offense was limited, and he struggled to carve out significant playing time behind the Eagles’ established wide receivers, including A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Despite the limited opportunities, he remained a reliable depth piece and contributed when called upon.
In 2024, Zaccheaus found a new opportunity with the Washington Commanders, where he reunited with former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn, who had taken over the reins in Washington. This move allowed him to take on a more prominent role in the offense. He enjoyed a productive season, posting 45 receptions for 506 yards and three touchdowns, proving he could still be a reliable target in the passing game. Additionally, he contributed on special teams as a punt returner, showcasing his versatility and willingness to help the team in multiple ways.
Now, Zaccheaus is set to join the Bears, a team looking to bolster its receiving corps ahead of the 2025 season. With veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen set to hit free agency, Chicago is in need of reliable pass-catchers to complement star wideout D.J. Moore and incoming rookie Rome Odunze. Zaccheaus will likely compete for playing time and could serve as a solid option in the slot or as a rotational receiver. His experience and ability to contribute on special teams may also give him an edge in securing a roster spot and making an impact in Chicago’s offense.
As the Bears continue to reshape their roster, the addition of Zaccheaus gives them a dependable veteran presence who can contribute both as a receiver and a return specialist. While he may not be a superstar, his ability to make timely plays, his work ethic, and his experience in different offensive systems make him a valuable piece for Chicago as they prepare for the upcoming season.
