The Oklahoma Sooners’ 2026 recruiting class currently has four commitments, but they are making strong progress with one of the top prospects in Oklahoma, Mason James.
On Wednesday, Josh McCuistion from SoonerScoop and On3 predicted that James will commit to the Sooners. This follows a FutureCast from Sam Spiegelman of Rivals in February, also predicting James would choose Oklahoma.
James, a four-star wide receiver from Norman North High School, is ranked among the top 250 players in the class and has the potential to exceed his rankings. On3 ranks him as the No. 1 player in Oklahoma, while 247Sports places him just behind defensive lineman Tajh Overton.
Known for his explosive speed and ability to change direction, James is a dynamic playmaker. He runs a full route tree, has excellent hands, and excels after the catch, particularly in short passing situations. He had a standout season with 56 receptions for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns.
James holds offers from a range of top-tier programs, including Texas, Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, SMU, Tennessee, Washington, Kansas State, and Missouri. He has scheduled official visits with Arizona State (May 2), Missouri (May 30), Washington (June 6), and Oklahoma (June 20), and will visit Notre Dame this weekend.
James told On3’s Chad Simmons that Oklahoma has been consistent and made him feel important from the start, which has left a positive impression. He also mentioned that he might make his decision sooner than expected, possibly this spring.
If the Sooners land Mason James, they’d be adding a versatile and dangerous playmaker to Ben Arbuckle’s offense, capable of impacting the passing game at every level.
