Oklahoma football general manager Jim Nagy has brought on his trusted assistant.
Pete Nakos of On3 reported on Tuesday that OU has hired Taylor Redd as the assistant general manager under Nagy, who was appointed to his position on February 26.
In his first press conference after taking the role, Nagy mentioned plans to expand the Sooners’ front office and bring in more personnel with NFL experience, aiming to model the team after an NFL franchise in the evolving landscape of college football. The addition of Redd supports this vision, signaling that Nagy’s plans are now fully underway.
Redd’s most recent position was as a senior consultant for The Athlete Group, which collaborated with OU in Nagy’s hiring process. This prior connection appears to have played a role in bringing Redd to Norman.
The Athlete Group, founded by Jake Rosenberg last year, focuses on transforming roster management, financial strategies, and team operations in collegiate athletics. The group also helped facilitate OU’s NIL deal with new quarterback John Mateer, valued at $3 million over two years. Nakos reports that Redd worked closely with OU head coach Brent Venables during the team’s recent winter transfer process.
Before joining The Athlete Group, Redd spent six seasons as a scout for the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick until 2024. He also served as Wake Forest’s director of player personnel from 2017 to 2018 before moving to the NFL.
Redd’s background mirrors that of Nagy, who also has NFL scouting experience and a history in college football as the Executive Director of the Senior Bowl.
This move is likely not Nagy’s last of the offseason as he aims to strengthen OU’s front office. While the addition of an assistant GM was expected, the full scope of additional roles under Nagy remains uncertain.
Three Oklahoma pitchers teamed up to throw a no-hitter in the Sooners’ 8-0 win over East Texas A&M on Wednesday night.
Isabella Smith, Kierston Deal, and Paytn Monticelli combined to shut down East Texas A&M at Love’s Field, with just one walk preventing a perfect game for the Sooners. The impressive feat was achieved without the use of Oklahoma’s ace, Sam Landry, who had been named SEC Pitcher of the Week after pitching in all four of OU’s games the previous week.
Smith started the game and pitched two innings, striking out four. Deal came in for the third inning, earning the win despite pitching only one inning. Monticelli completed the final two innings, walking one batter in the fourth.
While the pitchers dominated, freshman shortstop Gabbie Garcia had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Garcia, who was recently named SEC Player of the Week, extended her hitting streak to 13 games.
The victory improved the top-ranked Sooners to 27-0 on the season, maintaining their status as the only undefeated team in Division I softball.
Next up for OU is an SEC series against former Big 12 rival Missouri, with the Sooners traveling to Columbia on Friday. Missouri, sitting at 17-13, is the only unranked conference opponent on OU’s schedule.
