One of Miami-Dade’s top high school football prospects from the Class of 2027 has made his college decision, choosing to stay close to home for the next stage of his career. Miami Norland cornerback Kenton Dopson III announced on Thursday that he has given his verbal commitment to the University of Miami Hurricanes, adding to their growing recruiting class.
Dopson is regarded as one of the top young defensive backs in the region, and his talent has already earned him recognition from national recruiting services. Rivals has rated him as a four-star prospect, though other major recruiting platforms, including 247Sports and On3, have yet to assign him a ranking. His impressive performance on the field last season contributed to his rising status among college programs.
He finished the year with three interceptions and a team-leading 16 passes defended, playing a key role in Norland’s success. The team posted a strong 9-3 record and advanced to the Class 4A regional finals, where they ultimately fell to Plantation American Heritage, the eventual state champion.
Dopson becomes the second player to commit to Miami’s 2027 recruiting class, joining wide receiver Ah’mari Stevens from American Heritage. His commitment adds depth to the Hurricanes’ future defensive unit, as they continue to build a strong foundation for the years ahead. While he has chosen Miami, Dopson has been highly sought after by numerous programs, holding a total of 15 scholarship offers from schools across the country.
With several years still ahead in his high school career, Dopson has plenty of time to continue developing his skills before officially joining the Hurricanes. His commitment further highlights Miami’s efforts to keep top local talent in South Florida, strengthening their program with homegrown athletes.
