
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami track and field team delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday at the Hurricane Invitational, wrapping up competition at Cobb Stadium with 10 individual victories and several notable top-five marks in the history of the program.
The action kicked off with Devoux Deysel, who set the tone for the day with an exceptional performance in the javelin. Deysel not only secured the victory but also posted the best throw in the nation with an impressive 76.52m. This remarkable achievement was a testament to his talent and precision, making it a standout moment of the meet. Following this, Aaron Kim made his mark in the high jump, clearing 2.11m to claim first place. His jump ranked as the fourth-best performance in the history of Miami track and field, adding another milestone to his already impressive career.
The Hurricanes also showcased their dominance in the relay events, sweeping both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay titles. In the women’s race, the team of Juliana Balon, Janay Moorer, Alyssa Robinson, and Iyonna Codd turned in a strong performance, finishing with a time of 44.77 to take home the victory. On the men’s side, Carter Cukerstein, Ashton Torns, Lance Ward, and Ace Malone teamed up to deliver a blistering performance, posting the second-fastest time in the program’s history at 39.76, which was enough to secure the win and cement their place in Miami’s relay legacy.
The women’s 1500m race saw a strong showing from Daphnee Lavassas, who crossed the finish line in 4:24.78 to take first place. Not far behind, Maddie Scheier also had an impressive performance, registering the fifth-fastest time in the program’s history with a 4:27.94. These performances highlighted the depth of talent within the team as both athletes delivered outstanding results in a highly competitive event. Brittney Jennings continued the strong showing for Miami in the 100m hurdles, finishing third in the final with a time of 13.88, marking another solid performance for the Hurricanes.
The women’s 400m race was another highlight of the meet, with Sanaa Hebron emerging victorious with a time of 53.64. Her performance not only secured her the top spot but also added another win to Miami’s tally for the day. Serena Tate also made her mark in the event, finishing in second place with a time of 55.04, further demonstrating the depth of talent in the Hurricanes’ track and field squad. Meanwhile, in the men’s 100m, Carter Cukerstein triumphed with a strong run, clocking a time of 10.68 to claim the top spot and continue his impressive season.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, Morgan Roundtree showed her resilience, placing third with a time of 1:02.30, further contributing to the team’s success. Meanwhile, in the women’s triple jump, Christina Warren stood out with a leap of 13.29m to take first place, while Mitilde Tejos also had a strong performance, finishing third with a jump of 12.19m. These efforts in the field events added to Miami’s dominance across all disciplines.
In the shot put, Erikka Hill demonstrated her strength and consistency, finishing as the runner-up with a throw of 14.44m. Hill’s performance highlighted her continued excellence in the field events and her role as a key contributor to the team’s overall success.
The women’s 200m event proved to be another highlight for Miami, as the Hurricanes claimed both first and third place. Alyssa Robinson put forth a stellar effort, crossing the finish line in 23.28 to win the event, while Sanaa Hebron finished in third with a time of 23.54, further adding to the team’s strong showing in the sprints. On the men’s side, Ace Malone had a great performance in the 200m, securing the silver medal with a time of 21.09, showcasing his speed and consistency in the event.
One of the more unique and impressive races of the day was the women’s 2000m steeplechase, where Maddie Scheier once again made a mark, securing a win with a time of 6:56.93. Scheier’s victory in this challenging event was another testament to her versatility and ability to perform across multiple disciplines, further solidifying her place as one of the team’s key contributors.
With such a dominant performance across a wide range of events, the University of Miami track and field team showed its depth, talent, and resilience. As the Hurricanes continue to perform at a high level, they are setting themselves up for an exciting season ahead.
Miami will be back in action from March 28-29 for the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, their final home meet of the season, which will take place at Cobb Stadium.
