The Dallas Cowboys are set to enter NFL free agency with the flexibility to create up to $100 million in cap space. However, according to COO Stephen Jones, their approach will be “selectively aggressive” rather than splurging on top-tier talent. Some of that budget will go toward retaining key players like defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, making big-money signings less likely.
A top priority for Dallas is finding another playmaking receiver to complement All-Pro CeeDee Lamb and maximize their investment in quarterback Dak Prescott, who signed a $60 million deal. Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins has been floated as a potential target, but with Lamb already earning $34 million annually and Higgins likely commanding around $30 million per year, Dallas may look at more affordable options.
CowboysCountry.com’s Mike Fisher, who first reported the team’s ability to clear significant cap space, has pointed to Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Chris Godwin as a potential fit. While there’s no inside intel linking Dallas to Godwin, Fisher notes that if he’s available for around $20 million per year, he’d be worth considering. A polished route-runner and consistent 1,000-yard receiver, Godwin has thrived alongside Mike Evans in Tampa Bay. However, Buccaneers GM Jason Licht has made it clear that the team wants to retain him, saying, “Chris means the world to this organization… If I were a betting man, I’d bet on Chris.”
Despite a season-ending ankle injury last year, Godwin was on pace for a career-best season with 576 yards and five touchdowns in seven games. Fisher believes he’s a strong bet—one the Cowboys should seriously consider.
