The Tennessee Titans currently hold the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, set to begin on April 24, and the decision of who they will select remains one of the event’s biggest questions.
After a rough 3-14 season in 2024 and no winning seasons since 2021, there are numerous areas in which the team needs improvement.
However, during the “Cleats and Convos with Deebo Samuel” podcast on Bleacher Report, Titans defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons shared his thoughts on who the team should pick with the No. 1 selection.
“I’m starting on defense,” Simmons said. “We need another edge rusher. That guy from Penn State, Abdul Carter, he’s a beast.”
Tennessee’s defense could certainly use a boost. While it ranked second in total yards allowed per game (311.2), it was 30th in points allowed per game (27.2).
The team’s pass rush was one of the main reasons they struggled to stop opposing offenses, ranking tied for 30th in sacks (32), 32nd in pressures (91), 32nd in quarterback hurries (27), and 31st in quarterback knockdowns (32).
Carter, who in 2024 totaled 68 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, four pass deflections, and two forced fumbles, could provide a major boost to the Titans’ defense.
Pairing him with a standout player like Simmons, a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time Second-Team All-Pro, could spell trouble for opposing offensive lines.
Drafting Carter with the top pick wouldn’t be a stretch either, as both ESPN and Pro Football Focus have him ranked among the top two players available.
