Knight is one of the few athletic “freaks” in the class and is ranked No. 34 overall by 247Sports in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight announced on Wednesday that he has flipped his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn. This decision comes after weeks of speculation that the No. 34 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, as ranked by 247Sports, might reconsider his original commitment made in September.
Knight’s pledge has propelled Auburn to the No. 3 spot in the 2025 recruiting class rankings, surpassing LSU, according to 247Sports. This marks a significant milestone for the Tigers, who are poised to deliver their best recruiting class under head coach Hugh Freeze, following a No. 10 overall finish last cycle. Notre Dame, meanwhile, has dropped to No. 13 in the 2025 rankings.
Hailing from Lucedale, Mississippi, Knight is ranked as the No. 5 quarterback in his class and had previously garnered interest from programs such as Ole Miss, Alabama, and Colorado. He originally committed to Notre Dame last fall but has since visited Auburn twice this season, including for their matchups against Alabama A&M and Cal.
“He’s the most polarizing prospect in this class,” said 247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna. “It’s not just because he’s a quarterback. When you consider his physical potential, it’s limitless. This is a kid with a 42-inch vertical, a state championship pedigree, and a strong track and field background, including a brother who plays at Indiana. He checks every box.”
The 6-foot-4 left-handed quarterback is considered one of the most athletic talents in the 2025 class, debuting at No. 2 on 247Sports’ annual “Freaks List.”
“If you put him in an NFL scouting combine today, he’d rank in the top 1 percent, especially among quarterbacks,” Petagna added. “The main question with Knight is whether he can continue to develop as a passer. Based on his performance this offseason, the answer is likely yes. He showed significant improvement during the Elite 11 finals and continues to get better every time I see him.”
Knight is the 25th commitment in Auburn’s highly touted recruiting class, which also includes standout prospects like five-star edge rusher Jared Smith, five-star defensive lineman Malik Autry, four-star edge rusher Jakaleb Faulk, four-star safety Eric Winters, and four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Marshall.
Although Freeze has faced criticism for his handling of Auburn’s current quarterback situation, including sticking with the underperforming Payton Thorne, securing Knight—along with previous elite QB signee Walker White—demonstrates progress and potential for the Tigers’ future.
