Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic four-star safety Jacob Bradford has announced his decommitment from Houston, according to various reports. Bradford, who had been committed to the Cougars since June 23, is now leaning toward LSU. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound prospect is scheduled to visit Baton Rouge this weekend after recently completing an official visit.
Ranked as the No. 388 overall player and the No. 36 safety in the 2025 class by the On3 Industry Ranking, Bradford is also considered the No. 14 player in Louisiana. He noted the strong sense of community among Louisiana recruits during his most recent LSU visit, praising the connections between players and their families.
Bradford’s departure leaves Houston’s 2025 recruiting class with 18 commitments, dropping it outside the top 40 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. LSU, meanwhile, continues to bolster its class, which ranks No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC, with nine of Louisiana’s top 15 players already committed. LSU’s class includes top recruits like five-star running back Harlem Berry and top-100 offensive lineman Devin Harper.
The Tigers are also making strides in their defensive backfield recruiting, with four defensive backs already committed, including five-star cornerback DJ Pickett and four-star safety Jhase Thomas. Bradford’s younger brother, Blaine Bradford, is a top-ranked safety in the 2026 cycle and is also being linked to LSU.
In another major recruitment update, Ventura (Calif.) linebacker Tristan Phillips, a four-star prospect in the 2026 class, has committed to Oregon. Phillips, who chose the Ducks over Arizona State and Wisconsin, emphasized Oregon’s unique culture, facilities, and brotherhood as key factors in his decision. Oregon now has eight commitments in its 2026 class.
Meanwhile, Maryland has made a splash in the 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of five-star EDGE Zion Elee, vaulting its class to No. 13 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Elee, who opted to stay close to home, is the highest-rated recruit in Maryland coach Mike Locksley’s tenure. Maryland’s 2026 class now includes four commits, three of whom are from St. Frances Academy
