Darrion Smith Rejects His Auburn Tigers Commitment

Tennessee has lost a significant recruit on early signing day, as defensive lineman Darrion Smith flipped his commitment to Auburn. Smith, a three-star prospect from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, had been committed to Tennessee since July 30 but made multiple visits to Auburn during the season. His decision to de-commit and join the Tigers marks a setback for Tennessee, which had concerns about retaining him.

Despite this, Tennessee’s defensive line class under Coach Rodney Garner remains strong. Auburn’s ability to offer Smith early playing opportunities may have influenced his decision. This marks a key victory for Auburn and a disappointment for Tennessee as recruiting battles in the SEC continue.

Meanwhile, Tennessee’s football program remains active in securing other commitments and preparing for the College Football Playoff rankings. The Volunteers are still in a solid position, finishing the regular season with a 10-2 record and aiming for a higher playoff spot.
