Five-star center Chris Cenac Jr., a 6-foot-10, 230-pound prospect from New Orleans, committed to Houston on Tuesday afternoon. He chose the Cougars over a final list of seven schools, which also included Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Kentucky, LSU, and Tennessee. Cenac’s commitment is notable for Kentucky’s ongoing recruitment of the 2025 class. Back in June, Kentucky offered Cenac a scholarship after observing him at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Orlando, where he impressed with his versatility on both ends of the floor. Cenac, named MVP of the camp, is highly regarded for his ability to defend multiple positions and score in various ways. He has been a standout on the Puma grassroots circuit and at the NBPA Camp, earning 21 high-major scholarship offers in just a few months.
Kentucky’s recruitment of Cenac continued in late September with an official visit to Lexington, where Cenac praised Coach Mark Pope and the coaching staff for their NBA-style approach and player development program. Shortly after his visit, Cenac released his top seven list, which included Houston, where he ultimately committed. Cenac is ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the 2025 class and the top center by 247Sports. He is now the fourth commitment for Houston’s 2025 class, joining three other top recruits. Houston’s strong start this season and high ranking in the AP Poll have helped position them as a major contender in the 2025 recruiting race, with the second-best class behind Duke.
As for Kentucky, their 2025 class includes three signees: guards Acaden Lewis and Jasper Johnson, and center Malachi Moreno. UK is currently ranked sixth in recruiting rankings. Cenac, who won state titles at New Orleans’ Isidore Newman School, will play his senior year at Missouri’s Link Academy, the same school that UK signee Jasper Johnson attended. Cenac is focused on improving his leadership, basketball IQ, and overall game during his final high school season.
With Cenac’s commitment to Houston, Kentucky’s attention now turns to five remaining 2025 recruits still considering the Wildcats, including highly ranked prospects like Mikel Brown Jr., Brayden Burries, Niko Bundalo, Nate Ament, and Caleb Wilson. Among these, Wilson, ranked No. 5 in the class, is considered the most likely to commit to Kentucky. He has visited Lexington and included UK in his top five schools.
Kentucky’s 2025 class is not complete, with the Wildcats expected to add at least one more recruit. Seven players from the current roster will exhaust their eligibility after this season, leaving plenty of room for new signees. Coach Mark Pope has emphasized the importance of bringing in elite-level freshmen, especially one-and-done players, to maintain Kentucky’s basketball program’s high standards.
