Braves Make Bold Moves: Five Players Non-Tendered in Latest Roster Shakeup
The Atlanta Braves made some tough decisions just before the 8 p.m. EST non-tender deadline, parting ways with five players from their roster. While a few of these moves weren’t unexpected, some have caught fans by surprise.
The biggest headline is veteran outfielder Ramon Laureano, who contributed significantly to the Braves’ 2024 campaign after being picked up last summer. Despite his solid .259/.311/.437 slash line, the Braves opted to non-tender Laureano due to his projected $6 million arbitration salary, which felt too high for a player slated to be more of a fourth outfielder in 2025.
Another notable departure is Griffin Canning, acquired from the Angels in the Jorge Soler trade. Canning’s projected $5 million arbitration salary didn’t fit into the Braves’ plans, leading to a move that has many wondering why the trade happened in the first place. In reality, the Braves were hoping to flip Canning for something of value before the deadline, but ultimately, the trade turned into a straightforward salary dump.
Three pitchers—Ray Kerr, Huascar Ynoa, and Royber Salinas—round out the group of non-tendered players. While Kerr’s non-tender is somewhat surprising since he wasn’t arbitration-eligible this year, the Braves decided to move on after his inconsistent performances and elbow issues.
With these moves, Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos is now focused on strengthening the roster by targeting higher-caliber talent in the free-agent and trade markets this winter. Stay tuned as the Braves continue to make adjustments for the 2025 season!
