“Dallas Cowboys Rumored to Hire Top College Coach as Mike McCarthy’s Successor”

The Dallas Cowboys’ disappointing 3-6 start to the 2024 season has fans eagerly awaiting the end of the year, with many calling for owner Jerry Jones to part ways with head coach Mike McCarthy. Despite rumors of McCarthy’s dismissal following last season’s playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers, the team opted to give him another chance. However, it’s now widely believed that McCarthy, 61, won’t return in 2025, and Jones is expected to make a bold move in selecting his replacement.

A recent report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler highlights Oregon head coach Dan Lanning as a potential candidate for the Cowboys’ head coaching position. Lanning, in his third year at Oregon, is seen as a rising star in football coaching. While he has been cultivating a strong winning culture with the Ducks, there’s speculation he could make the leap to the NFL.

Scott Barrett of Fantasy Points has also predicted Lanning as the Cowboys’ next coach in his 2025 head coaching forecast, alongside other projections such as Bill Belichick to the Giants and Mike Vrabel to the Jets. Lanning, who has coached under renowned leaders like Nick Saban and Kirby Smart, is admired for his ability to build winning teams.

Though it would be a loss for college football, fans are excited about the prospect of Lanning bringing his expertise to Dallas. His potential hiring could inject fresh energy into the Cowboys as they aim to reclaim their spot among the NFL’s elite.
