The Buffalo Bills have had an outstanding start to the 2024 season and are on the verge of securing their fifth consecutive AFC East title. However, their biggest test lies ahead. As they prepare for a showdown against the undefeated, two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, the Bills recognize that the outcome of next Sunday’s game is not the most critical factor moving forward. This is because both teams are likely to meet again in the playoffs. Buffalo has won the last three regular-season matchups with Kansas City, but in their two previous playoff encounters, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have come out on top. As a result, while the Bills will approach Sunday’s game with their usual preparation, the intensity won’t be the same as it would be for other matchups, knowing that it won’t ultimately have playoff implications.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott emphasized that the team’s internal expectations remain the most important. “They’ve done a good job to this point,” McDermott said. “We understand the importance of this game to everyone else, and we’ll approach it with focus, but we treat every game with the same level of preparation. If we don’t, we’re doing ourselves a disservice. We owe it to ourselves and our fans to bring the same intensity every week.”
Despite what some may have expected to be a rebuilding year, Buffalo has been one of the most dominant teams in the league. The Bills are virtually guaranteed to win their division by November, and if they can defeat the Chiefs on Sunday, it will add another significant achievement to their season. However, they still have much to prove in the months ahead.
