Just in : Mike McCarthy Reflects on Cooper Rush’s Struggles and Offensive Rhythm Issues

FRISCO, Texas – In Cooper Rush’s seventh start, he struggled to find his rhythm, completing only 45 yards on 23 attempts in the Cowboys’ 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Head Coach Mike McCarthy took responsibility for not establishing a better flow for Rush during the game.

“I couldn’t get Cooper [Rush] into a groove, and that didn’t sit well with me,” McCarthy acknowledged. “We need to improve in that area, and I need to do a better job with it.”

Although Rico Dowdle and the Cowboys’ run game showed promise in the first half, the team struggled on third down, converting just 3 out of 14 attempts and punting six times. McCarthy has aimed for manageable third-down situations for weeks, but the offense failed to execute effectively against Philadelphia.

When asked about the lack of deep throws, McCarthy explained, “We aimed to get the ball into open spaces with some crossing routes, but it just didn’t come together. The ball didn’t go downfield as much as it needed to.”

Rush ultimately failed to connect on passes beyond 10 yards, going 0 for 6 on such attempts, making the Cowboys the seventh team this season without a 10+ yard completion in a game.
