Four wins, four losses, 116 points per game, and 46.8% field goal shooting. Oh, and a “few” broken clipboards.
These are the early numbers from JJ Redick’s first weeks as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, with the latter statistic courtesy of ESPN’s Shams Charania
Redick, who took over as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers in June, succeeded Darvin Ham after the Lakers’ disappointing first-round exit in the 2023-24 playoffs. Despite skepticism surrounding his ability to lead an NBA team, the first-time head coach has impressed early in the season, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
“Anytime you have a coach who puts in as much effort as he does, both on and off the floor, it’s noticeable,” Charania said on SportsCenter. “You can feel his desire to win, his passion for the game… I’ve been told there have been several clipboards broken in his first month as head coach of the Lakers. He’s incredibly passionate, and that energy is felt by the team. He’s a perfectionist who wants to win badly.
