Tennessee Volunteers Mourn the Loss of Legendary Coach
The University of Tennessee community is in mourning following the passing of former head football coach, Robert “Bob” Hargrove
,who died at the age of 78. Hargrove, who led the Volunteers from 1995 to 2005, passed away peacefully at his home after a prolonged battle with illness.
During his tenure, Coach Hargrove brought the Vols to multiple bowl games and secured a memorable SEC Championship in 2001. His innovative coaching style and dedication to the players left a lasting impact on the program and its fans. Hargrove was known for his motivational speeches and ability to connect with athletes, fostering both their skills on the field and their growth as individuals.
Current head coach, Derek Mason, expressed his condolences, stating, “Coach Hargrove was not only a great leader but also a mentor to so many in our program. His legacy will live on in every player who has worn the orange and white.”
The University plans to hold a memorial service in his honor next week, inviting alumni, players, and fans to celebrate his life and contributions to Tennessee football.
