Amid the focus on Jackson Arnold and Michael Hawkins, Oklahoma’s third quarterback, Casey Thompson, is ready for action, according to coach Brent Venables. Hawkins, a true freshman, will make his first career start against Auburn after replacing Arnold during a recent loss to Tennessee. Venables stressed the importance of keeping Arnold prepared as well.
Thompson, a seventh-year senior with extensive experience from his time at Texas, Nebraska, and FAU, has been recovering from a knee injury but is mentally ready to contribute. He has played in 33 games, with 20 starts, totaling 5,338 passing yards and 52 touchdowns.
Venables highlighted Thompson’s leadership qualities and wisdom, noting his role in mentoring the younger quarterbacks. Thompson actively supports his teammates during games and practices, providing guidance and encouragement. His commitment to making those around him better has made a significant impact on the team.
