On late Wednesday night, the New York Yankees popped open beers and champagne, celebrating their first playoff spot since 2022. It’s been a rollercoaster season for the team, with a strong start overshadowed by struggles since mid-June. The acquisition of New York Yankees by general manager Brian Cashman reinvigorated the lineup, creating an exciting superstar duo alongside Aaron Judge.
However, less than 24 hours after their celebration, the Yankees faced a scare with Soto.
In the bottom of the seventh inning against the Seattle Mariners, Jorge Polanco hit a deep fly ball down the right field line. Soto sprinted to make the catch but collided with the wall upon landing. He struggled to get up, clearly favoring his left knee, raising concerns about his health just as the playoffs approach.
