**BALTIMORE (AP)** — Damon Davis, a road construction inspector, narrowly escaped when the Francis Scott Key Bridge began to collapse during his overnight shift. He managed to run to safety just moments before the bridge fell into the water.
Davis’s attorney, Billy Murphy, plans to file a liability case against the owner of the Dali, the container ship that crashed into one of the bridge’s supporting columns in March. The accident resulted in the deaths of six road crew members who were repairing potholes, while another worker, Julio Cervantes Suarez, survived by escaping his sinking truck.
A last-minute mayday call from the ship’s pilot allowed police to stop traffic, but they couldn’t warn the crew in time. Davis, returning to his car when the collapse occurred, leaped to safety just before his vehicle was lost. He is now dealing with trauma from the incident and mourning the loss of his colleagues.
