MAINEVILLE, Ohio — Nelly Korda is proving her resilience early in the Kroger Queen City Championship. Despite the fatigue from her recent Solheim Cup victory, the world No. 1 fired a bogey-free 5-under 67, placing her two shots behind leader Ashleigh Buhai.
Korda’s round included birdies on the 2nd, 8th, 11th, 13th, and 18th holes. “I putted really well on the back nine. Overall, I’m happy with a bogey-free round,” she said. Korda acknowledged her low energy but expressed motivation from the fans.
This week marks her debut at the tournament, having skipped the previous two years. After a rough patch in June, she has bounced back with impressive performances, including two top-10 finishes recently.
Korda credits her success to a new TaylorMade Spider putter, saying, “It feels really nice. It’s great to see the hard work pay off.” With three rounds to go, she aims to maintain her momentum despite challenging course conditions. “It’s going to get firmer,” she noted, preparing for adjustments ahead.
