BREAKING NEWS : baseball’s 2024 recruiting class ranked No. 1 overall in final rankings

Tennessee baseball has signed the No. 1 overall recruiting class in the country coming off of its first national championship in program history.

Perfect Game finalized their team recruiting rankings on Thursday after taking into consideration which signing classes were most impacted by July’s 2024 MLB Draft. PG still labeled UT’s signing class as the best in the country after it lost four signees to the draft.

It is the first time that Tennessee has finished with Perfect Game’s No. 1 overall recruiting class since the publication began ranking each team’s class in 2011.

14 of the 16 SEC programs finished ranked in the top 25 of Perfect Game’s team rankings, with Tennessee leading the way for seven teams ranked inside of the top 10. Those teams consisted Auburn (No. 3), Ole Miss (No. 4), LSU (No. 5), Texas (No. 6), Vanderbilt (No. 7), Florida (No. 10), Oklahoma (No. 12), Arkansas (No. 15), Georgia (No. 19), Texas A&M (No. 20), Mississippi State (No. 22), Kentucky (No. 24) and Alabama (No. 25).

South Carolina (No. 36) and Missouri (No. 41) were the pair of SEC schools ranked outside of PG’s top-25 team rankings.

Tennessee’s 2024 signing class

Four of Tennessee’s top-five signees and 11 of the top 13 made it to campus despite the majority of its class being considered various draft risks.

The top two signees who did not make it to Rocky Top were infielder Ty Southisene from Henderson, Nev. and fellow infielder Trey Snyder from Kansas City, Mo. Southisene signed with the Chicago Cubs after being selected with the No. 120 overall pick in the fourth round, while Snyder signed with the New York Mets after being drafted in the fifth round with the No. 144 overall pick.

Southisene was UT’s third-highest ranked recruit in its signing class. He was considered the No. 38 player in the country and the No. 11 shortstop. Snyder was the sixth-highest ranked recruit as the No. 69 overall player in the country.

Tennessee was able to get its highest-ranked recruit in the class to campus despite the Detroit Tigers selecting RHP Anson Seibert in the 16th round. Seibert is ranked by PG as the No. 35 overall player in the country and the No. 8 right-handed pitcher out of Overland Park, Kans.

Four of Tennessee’s top-five signees ultimately turned down professional opportunities. In addition to Seibert, catcher Levi Clark (No. 36 overall), RHP Tegan Kuhns (No. 45 overall) and infielder Arnold Abernathy (No. 61 overall) all elected to come to campus despite receiving significant interest throughout the draft.

The Vols’ class consists of seven players that rank inside of Perfect Game’s top 100. 10 players rank inside of the top 200, 11 rank inside the top 300, 15 rank inside of the top 400 and 18 rank inside of the top 500.
