The Bulls had maintained the same core group—LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Vucevic, and Alex Caruso—for two consecutive offseasons. In the summer of 2024, they initiated a partial rebuild by making notable changes: Caruso was traded for Josh Giddey, and DeRozan was moved to the Sacramento Kings in a sign-and-trade deal that brought back a modest return.
