Ja’Marr Chase is reportedly unhappy with the Cincinnati Bengals over contract negotiations. Despite his desire for a new deal, no agreement was reached before the season started, and Chase has decided not to pursue negotiations during the season. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Chase feels misled by the Bengals, who had assured him at the end of last season and during the scouting combine that a new contract would be finalized, but that did not happen.
The Bengals were expected to offer Chase a contract that would surpass the extension given to Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings. However, issues arose regarding the deal’s structure and payout. Jefferson’s extension averages $35 million annually, and Chase, currently in the final year of his rookie contract, is set to make $21.8 million under the team’s fifth-year option.
