A former standout for the Boston Celtics could be on the move again within the same calendar year.
On a recent episode of “The Hoop Collective,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst discussed potential trade candidates in the NBA, highlighting Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams, also known as “Time Lord.”
“Robert Williams, ‘The Time Lord,’ is a player to watch who could be very tradable,” Windhorst mentioned, as reported by Sporting News. “Portland might be open to trading him, and he could make a significant impact for a contender if he stays healthy.”
Williams, 26, was drafted by the Celtics in 2018 as the 27th overall pick and grew into a key player, even starting for the team that reached the NBA Finals in 2022. Known for his energetic play, rim protection, and ability to switch defensively, Williams has career averages of 7.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.
However, after being traded to the Blazers last October in the Jrue Holiday deal, Williams played only six games for Portland before undergoing season-ending knee surgery in November. With about $25.7 million owed over the next two seasons, Williams might be a trade candidate for the Blazers as they continue their rebuild. While Portland might consider keeping him to improve his trade value, he already attracted significant interest from other NBA teams last season.
