As the New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 on Thursday, star slugger Pete Alonso rose up a unique scoreboard in franchise history.
At the top of the second inning, Alonso went up to the plate and blasted right-hander Ryne Nelson of the Diamondbacks for a 439-foot home run to center field. The four-time All-Star hit a home run to give the Mets a 1-0 lead and help them win the game. It was an excellent play by Alonso. With the bomb, the native of Florida launched his 221st career home run and rose to the third spot on the Mets’ all-time home run list
