Adrian Newey and Lewis Hamilton won’t be joining forces at Ferrari next year, as recent reports suggest.
The competition to secure Newey’s expertise remains intense in the F1 paddock, but Ferrari is reportedly no longer in contention, according to F1.com.
Initially, Ferrari was seen as the top contender to sign Newey, the outgoing Red Bull chief technology officer. This would have set up a potential partnership with Hamilton, whom Newey has expressed regret about not working with before. However, despite Hamilton joining Ferrari in 2025, Newey is unlikely to be part of that equation.
The battle for Newey’s services is now between Aston Martin and Alpine. McLaren has already ruled itself out, and Mercedes was never a serious contender.
F1.com reports from the Italian Grand Prix at Monza that Aston Martin appears to be leading the race for Newey’s signature. Despite a playful inquiry from Sky Sports’ Martin Bundle about signing Newey, team owner Lawrence Stroll did not commit to the idea. Nevertheless, Stroll has made significant moves by hiring ex-Mercedes executive Andy Cowell as CEO and former Ferrari chief Enrico Cardale as CTO.
Aston Martin’s new headquarters at Silverstone and their upcoming partnership with Honda from 2026 make the team an attractive option. However, Alpine is also in the mix, with Flavio Bria tore, the new executive advisor to the team, eager to bring Newey on board. Bria tore has expressed that securing Newey is a possibility.
With Newey becoming available next year, he could have a significant impact on the development of his new team’s 2026 car, potentially giving them a crucial advantage.
