PHOENIX (AP) — In Friday night’s finals, Allisha Grey triumphed over local favorite Sophie Cunningham to claim victory in the WNBA All-Star skills competition.
The Atlanta Dream guard, who had clocked the fastest time in the preliminary round, was just a second behind in the final round but outpaced Cunningham in the passing, dribbling, and shooting challenges, completing the course in 32.1 seconds.
Both Grey and Cunningham struggled with 3-pointers during the final, but Grey’s speed helped her surpass Cunningham’s time of 34.2 seconds.
“It’s enjoyable,” Grey said. “It’s a breath of fresh air to be here. Even though you’re still confined, the environment is much more fun.”
Kelsey Mitchell of Indiana stepped in at the last minute to participate.
