CeeDee Lamb Contract Talks Overlooked Again by Jerry Jones
The Dallas Cowboys’ preseason has concluded, yet star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb remains in a protracted contract holdout.
Lamb is seeking a new deal that reflects his status as an elite pass catcher, but the Cowboys’ management has shown little urgency in addressing his demands.
After the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in their preseason finale, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked about the ongoing negotiations with Lamb. Jones deflected, offering no updates and focusing only on players currently with the team. “I don’t have any updates,” Jones stated. “We’ve got a lot of things to talk about. I’m only talking about who is here.”
This response is consistent with Jones’ previous dismissive stance on the matter. Earlier this month, he suggested there was no immediate need to finalize a contract for the All-Pro wide receiver, which led to Lamb removing all mentions of the Cowboys from his social media profiles.
Jerry Jones was asked multiple times about getting a contract done with CeeDee Lamb before the season starts. The Cowboys owner wanted no part of discussing the topic. “I don’t have any updates. … We got a lot of things to talk about. I’m only talking about who is here.” pic.twitter.com/s5FCVdi2e8

As the regular season draws near, it is crucial for the Cowboys to advance in their contract discussions if they want Lamb on the field for their season opener against the Cleveland Browns. Failure to resolve the contract situation soon could jeopardize not only Lamb’s participation but also impact Dak Prescott and the overall effectiveness of the Cowboys’ offense.
Lamb had an outstanding season last year, leading the NFL with 135 receptions, accumulating 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns, in addition to two rushing touchdowns. His exceptional performance earned him first-team All-Pro honors and a spot in his third Pro Bowl.
With the Cowboys’ 2024 season opener against the Cleveland Browns set for Sunday, September 8, and Tom Brady making his broadcasting debut for the game on FOX, the urgency to finalize Lamb’s contract has never been greater.
